Dr Cindy de Villiers offers a private General Practice and Integrative Medicine service to select patients who look for independent primary health care or who are pursuing abundant health and wish to work with an Integrative Medicine Practitioner.
Dr Cindy de Villiers
Dr Cindy de Villiers is a General Practitioner with a special interest in Integrative Medicine, in which she has extensive training. She runs a private clinic in Nelson, New Zealand where she combines complementary, herbal, nutritional and environmental medicine with conventional medicine, emphasising the treatment of underlying factors and triggers while providing symptomatic relief.
Dr Cindy de Villiers was always fascinated by the intricacies and complexity of the body, by how it worked; what made us, as humans, function and what was going on when weren’t functioning optimally. She was thus disappointed by the end of medical school to be only concentrating on pathways and pharmaceuticals. Through a number of life-events, Cindy was motivated to start digging back into physiology and bio-chemisty trying to find the basis of disease presentations. She has undertaken much formal and informal training in the area of Integrative Medicine. A whole new world of medicine opened to her. A world where doctors looks at the root causes, triggers and drivers for ill health. This has led on to an exploration of life-span and performance optimisation.
Thus, on the side, Cindy is working with technical specialists to develop an automated diagnostic and treatment engine. This is aimed at automating protocols for practitioners and patients using medical wearables. The vision is to allow practitioners to concentrate on the 20% of medical care that can be personalised to the individual, letting the automation takes care of the rest while still allowing for choice and individualisation.
Philosophy
Dr Cindy de Villiers’ approach takes into account every facet of who the patient is, how they live their lives and what their experiences and preferences are. Besides the foundations of diet, lifestyle and belief, Cindy may include short – or long-term pharmaceuticals, extensive investigation of underlying causes of health conditions and the provision of symptomatic relief. Most importantly each program is tailored to the individual, whether in private General Practice or in Integrative Medicine.
We are what we eat and what we eat, eats and where it grows. We are what we breath and what touches our skin. We are indeed of the earth. Not only should we tread lightly, we should seek to regenerate healthy soils, waters, animals and plants. Most importantly when we seek to connect to others, the earth and the universe, we heal not just our physical bodies but all that is us.
Experience
Dr Cindy de Villiers has worked in general practice and emergency settings for thirty years in New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. She has fellowships from the Royal New Zealand College of General Practice and the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine and is working to attain her fellowship from the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.
Cindy has worked in and owned a number of General Practices in New Zealand. She initially sought to bring Integrative Medicine into General Practice. However with the time constraints in and funding of General Practices it became increasingly difficult to effectively provide personalised Integrative Medicine in that setting. She thus started practicing privately, providing only Integrative Medicine in New Zealand. By keeping her registration in Australia current with regular General Practice locums, Cindy maintains her mainstream primary health care experience. In addition to her Integrative Medicine service in New Zealand, Cindy is now offering a private General Practice.
